"As Within, So Without" by Steven on January 24, 2012, 11:20 pm, in category General

“As within, so without.” This principle tells us that our external world is a reflection of our internal world. If your external world is peaceful and ordered, then your inner life is peaceful and ordered. If your inner life is chaotic, your external world is likely to be a mess.
The interesting thing is this – when you change one, the other changes. If you “clean up your act”, you see your environment becoming more orderly and organ..... Comments

Did you make a new year's resolution to get organized? Getting organized was the #2 pick in one list of top ten resolutions for 2012. * One of the first steps for being better organized is to get rid of clutter.
Removing physical clutter in order to be organized is a worthy goal, but what about the clutter in other areas of your life? How much time have you spent lately in examining and cleaning out the clutter from the mental, emotional, or spiritual "c..... Comments

From the field of positive psychology, we learn that there is a happiness formula:
H = S + C + V
where H is your level of Happiness, S is your happiness "Set point", C represents the Circumstances of your life, and V stands for things under your Voluntary control. [Seligman 45] Researchers have determined that we have the power to influence a large chunk of our happiness -- about 40%, which represents those things under our control. One op..... Comments

Christmas decorations going up in stores before the Hallowe'en stuff came down? Folks getting mauled at the malls on Black Friday? (It is indeed a black Friday.) I was beginning to feel quite Scrooge-like: Bah! Humbug!
"Christmas," says Garrison Keillor, "has something for everyone. You like to cook? Try roasting a goose. Anyone who can accomplish that is qualified to run for public office. If you like to shop, here's the world championship event. Want t..... Comments

"Good Day!" by Steven on October 25, 2011, 11:31 pm, in category General

Hyrum Smith [http://www.hyrumwsmith.com/] calls them the "magic hours", a block of uninterrupted time, usually in the early morning, when you can concentrate on things beyond the normal urgency and routine of the day. This may be a time when you read or meditate or plan the day ahead. Brian Tracy [http://www.briantracy.com] refers to this time as the Golden Hour -- the first hour of the day which can set the tone for the rest of the day.
Making good use of the Gold..... Comments

"Just wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and prayin' and plannin' and dreamin' . . ." ~ Wishin' And Hopin' by Dusty Springfield
Our goals and aspirations generally fall into two categories - what we say we want and what we really want as shown by our actions. What do your actions say that you want?
"I'm very dependable; you can count on me," my friend told me at lunch one day. She did not see the irony in the fact that she had been 10 minutes late that day and had..... Comments

"Lord grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can, and
the wisdom to know the difference." ~Saint Francis of Assisi
"I am what I am." ~Popeye
What are you struggling with right now? Are you beating yourself up because of things you should have done but didn't? Ought to do but haven't? Must do but don't wanna?
There is another way. It's called "acceptance".

"Your Valid Values" by Steven on August 30, 2011, 11:40 pm, in category General

Everyone has values, whether they realize them or not, whether they can name them or not. One of the keys to creating your life is to choose your values and consciously take steps to live them.
"Everyone has values," I said to my daughter the other day. "But some values serve people better than others." This brief conversation started me to thinking (again) about values in general and my own values in particular.
Values are intrinsically neither..... Comments

"Developing The 4 Intelligences" by Steven on August 23, 2011, 11:05 pm, in category General

I have shared these "4 Intelligences" before with some early readers of the "Excelerators For Living" newsletter, but something happened recently that has me thinking about them again. Actually, the event that happened was due to the fact that I *didn't* follow the advice of one of the intelligences. The result was embarrassing, but it could have been worse -- it was potentially damaging.
I encourage you to consider these 4 intelligences or capacities a..... Comments

"Distractors" by Steven on August 16, 2011, 11:32 pm, in category General

Do you have distractors in place that keep you from paying attention and living in the moment? Sometimes, distractors have a useful place in our lives to distract our attention from unpleasant activities. But if you aren't careful, the distractor can become a habit and you begin distracting your attention from your life.
Years ago, when my daughter was gravely ill, she spent weeks in the hospital. During that time, she endured many difficult tests and pr..... Comments
